Samsung FlexWash Lid Replacement: Inside a 1.5-Hour Repair in Miami

When the lid on your Samsung FlexWash upper washer fails, it may look like a simple swap. On the machine in this repair, it wasn’t. Reaching the lid meant disassembling the upper section and removing the small top-load washer assembly above the main front-loader.
Our team recently handled this job for a Miami homeowner. Here’s what the repair involved, why this visit took about an hour and a half, and what you should know if your FlexWash lid is cracked, loose, or won’t close.

The Problem: A FlexWash Lid That Needed Replacing
Samsung FlexWash combines two washers in one cabinet: a full-size front-load washer for larger loads and a smaller top-load washer for smaller, separate loads. The upper washer has its own tub, lid, and associated wiring and water connections.
In this case, the upper washer’s lid needed replacement. Accessing it involved much more than removing an exterior hinge screw. The photos document the upper tub and surrounding components removed during the repair.
Why This Lid Replacement Took About 1.5 Hours
The FlexWash design fits another washer, controls, hoses, and wire harnesses into the top of the cabinet. On this unit, our technicians needed to remove the upper covers, disconnect the relevant wiring and hoses, and lift out the upper washer assembly to reach the lid.
Reassembly matters just as much as access. A pinched hose, loose connector, or incorrectly seated component can lead to leaks or operating problems. Our team kept the parts organized and tested both washers before completing the job.
The exact procedure and time depend on the model, the damaged component, working space, and any other faults found. A lid, hinge, latch, and protective inner cover are not interchangeable parts; the technician must identify what actually needs replacing.
How We Replaced the Samsung FlexWash Lid
Here’s an overview of the work performed in the customer’s laundry room. It describes this service visit, rather than providing model-specific repair instructions.
1. Disconnect Power and Shut Off Water
We unplugged the washer and shut off both water supply valves before beginning the repair. The technician follows the applicable manufacturer safety procedure before accessing internal components.
2. Make Room and Protect the Work Area
We moved the washer to create access and used towels to help protect the area and manage residual water. Large components need a stable place to rest during disassembly.
3. Remove the Upper Covers
The upper covers and surrounding components were removed as needed to access the upper washer assembly. Access points and fasteners vary by model.
4. Disconnect the Relevant Wiring and Hoses
Our technicians disconnected the connections needed to remove the upper assembly, keeping track of routing and placement for reassembly. Avoiding damage to connectors and hoses is an important part of the job.
5. Remove the Upper Washer Assembly
The upper tub assembly was lifted out so the lid could be accessed. The photo below shows the removed tub and the surrounding upper frame during this stage.

6. Fit the Replacement Lid
With access available, we removed the damaged lid and installed the replacement specified for the machine. The lid’s fit, alignment, and opening and closing movement were checked before reassembly.
7. Reassemble the Machine
The upper washer assembly was reinstalled, followed by the disconnected hoses, harnesses, covers, and other components. Correct routing and secure connections help prevent leaks and operating faults.

8. Test Both Washers
After reassembly, we restored water and power and checked upper-washer operation, lid locking, and leaks. We also checked that the main front-load washer operated normally.
Total time on site for this job: about 1.5 hours. That is the time for this completed visit, not a promise about another repair or parts delivery.
Signs Your FlexWash Lid or Lock Needs Attention
These symptoms call for inspection, but they do not all mean that you need a new lid:
- Cracked or chipped lid glass.
- A damaged or loose hinge that lets the lid sag or wobble.
- A lid that will not close properly or sit flush.
- A door or lid error, or an upper washer that will not start.
- Water around the top of the machine after using the upper washer.
A door error can involve the latch, lock, an obstruction, or another component—not just the lid. Samsung’s washing-machine error-code guidance also notes a FlexWash-specific cause of the 1dC4 code: a missing rubber button beside the upper washer latch. Always check the guidance for your exact model before ordering parts.
Leaks can come from hoses, seals, detergent use, or other faults, so water near the top is not proof of a broken lid. Stop using the machine if there is broken glass, a leak, or another safety concern, and arrange a diagnosis.
Can You Replace a FlexWash Lid Yourself?
For a repair involving this degree of disassembly, we recommend a trained appliance technician. The upper assembly is awkward to handle, wiring can be damaged, and an incorrectly reconnected hose can leak inside the cabinet or onto the floor.
If the washer is under warranty, check the warranty terms and service options before arranging repairs. DIY work does not automatically void every warranty, but damage caused by an improper repair may not be covered.
Tips to Protect Your FlexWash Lid
- Close it gently. Avoid dropping or slamming the lid.
- Keep heavy items off the lid. Do not use it as a shelf or workbench.
- Follow the upper washer’s load limits. Keep laundry clear of the closure and never force the lid shut.
- Keep the closure area clean. Follow the owner’s manual for cleaning the lid, seal area, and protective cover.
- Address looseness early. Have a loose hinge or misaligned lid inspected before the damage gets worse.
Samsung FlexWash Lid Replacement FAQ
How long does a Samsung FlexWash lid replacement take?
The Miami repair shown here took our team about 1.5 hours on site. Much of that time went into disassembly, reassembly, and testing. Your repair may take more or less time depending on the model, damaged parts, access, and any additional problems; parts-ordering time is separate.
Is it worth replacing the lid instead of buying a new washer?
It can be, especially if the rest of the washer is in good condition. Compare a written repair estimate with the cost of replacement, taking the machine’s age, overall condition, parts availability, and warranty coverage into account. A diagnosis is needed before deciding.
Can I still use the bottom washer if the top lid is broken?
FlexWash is designed to operate its upper and lower washers independently, but that does not establish that a damaged machine is safe to use. Have a technician assess the damage before running either washer. Do not operate the machine with broken glass, leaks, exposed components, or an unresolved safety fault, and never bypass a lid lock.
Why couldn’t the lid just be swapped from the outside on this repair?
On the unit shown, accessing the lid required removing the upper washer assembly. The required access and replacement procedure depend on the model and the part being replaced. This case study is not a universal disassembly guide for every FlexWash.
Do you repair other Samsung washer problems?
